acceptable in the 80's?
Video of a gig i went to a little while ago, Calvin Harris - Acceptable in the 80's at Fabric.
What the hell is New-Rave?
This makes me angry, what does 'new-rave' mean? If there's such a thing as old rave then someone needs to go tell all the 'old ravers' still going for it on the dance floor to take their glow sticks and fuck off home because it's not cool any more.
I don't understand how bands are being pin-pointed as 'nu-rave', is this not just a trend?
I dislike some damn good bands such as, The Klaxons, New Young Pony Club and Hadouken being put in this catagory. It suggests to me that it seems it is to do much more with style over substance based around Glowsticks, brightly coloured neon clothes and sunglasses. It's basically just a more pretentious stance on the basic rave genre in the first place.

The Eurovision Shite Contest
Yes. It is simply that.
Does it not embarrass every UK citizen to be represented by four past-it pop wannabes singing a song full of no lyrical substance and non-sensical sexual innuendos while dressed in ridiculous british airways-eque costumes? Flying the flag(For you)? Thanks Scooch, but I'd rather you didn't. You should have given up ten years ago, lets be honest.
It makes me sick that the BBC gave up valuable broadcasting time to put this on, call yourself a public service broadcaster? Surely its a public service to keep this crap off our screens for the sake of public health.
And the winner? A whining lesbian from Serbia who one because they have borders with the most countries. Brilliant.

OK Go’s treadmill-choreographed music video are among the winners in the first YouTube Video Awards.
Seeing as how 13 million people have already watched this video on YouTube, you may already be familiar with this clip from Chicago-born band OK Go. I still get a kick out of watching it every time. How many takes do you think it took for these guys to get their smooth dance moves just right?

Ask the band

Damn Queens of the Stone Age. Josh Homme and co have got fans both quivering with pant-dampening excitement over their next album and furious that the only UK festival they're playing is O2 Wireless. Come on, Wireless? If they're not supporting Dave Grohl in his various guises then it's the White Stripes. I don't want to pay to sit in Hyde Park drinking Pimms with shrieking, patterned-welly-wearing Jack White obsessives. That'd just be silly.
Still, I've been arsing around on the newly under-stated website and found a section called Ask The Band. We're all aware of what this entails so I won't explain. What I will do though is comment on the shite questions people are emailing in - some of them are borderline rhetorical, let alone thick. http://www.rekordsrekords.com/asktheband/qotsaemail.html
It reminds me of being at primary school and having an unhealthy fondness for Boyzone. One day, when my copy of the Boyzone fanclub (yes I was a member) fanzine (no I didn't write it!) came through, I discovered an Ask The Band (or in this instance, ask the grouping of pre-pubescent boys and Shane Lynch) section and decided to write to them with a bollocking good question. My first brush with journalism putting me immediately to the test!
After much deliberation, wondering whether or not Ronan would accept my proposal and if at the tenderest age of 10 I was too young, I plumped for a real Paxman-esque, universe shattering humdinger - "do you support charities?" What a humdinger it was. I bet the work placement student at the press office had to have a long hard think over a cuppa to figure out an answer to that. Moreover, who ever says "no" to that kind of question? It's like asking if someones opposed to child abuse.
Long, boring story short, 'Ronan' replied in the next issue and I was published. Something for the CV, that one.
I'm told Josh Homme is not only opposed to child abuse but even supports charities. Shocking.

Whose Space?
Whose space?
Rather witty feature about what sounds like a rather witty book;

http://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk/content/content_detail.php?id=1487&type=Features
Interesting to think that most of the issues and ideas discussed in this book were practically rendered 'obsolete' by the time it got to the publishing stage. Interesting, but not surprising - you don't have to use Myspace to appreciate the internet's impact on everyday living. Shame though really, if it perhaps sounded less like a lazy dissertation topic then I'd consider getting my mitts on a copy.

Modular - Turnmills - London
The Klaxons, Gossip, New Young Pony Club...one could be forgiven for thinking this was the lineup for one of the big summer festivals, yet, as the clock approached 6am, there were no puddles to avoid or tents to go back home to. This was Together at Turnmills.

Hip label, 'Modular' last week celebrated the release of two new records with a huge nu-rave up at 'Together' at the Turnmills in London on Saturday 24th.

Party people 'Fishseeksbicyle ' hosted fun and games in the cinema lounge, whilst upstairs the Together All-Stars got even sillier with a comedy soundtrack of 80s pop, TV themes and party games. This month’s fancy dress theme was military garb and prizes were awarded for the best dressed.
Canadian duo rockers turned housers MSTRKRFT headlined room one to plug their debut LP ‘The Looks’ which sees a UK release this month. Support in room one was from the only man to have ever DJed with suction cups attached to his skull – I refer of course to Chicago house legend, Green Velvet.
Room two had electro-poppers Hot Chip headline, spinning a DJ set and Parisian glitch electro star Para One (listen out for his new remix of Bloc Party’s ‘The Prayer) with support from London house mainstay and Together resident Justin Robertson.
Room three was Modular, Modular and more Modular, celebrating the release of new label comp ‘Leave Them All Behind 2’. Headliner was the DJ arm of the Aussie record label, Ajax, with The Gossip, Klaxons and New Young Pony Club brought in for a spot of DJ jiggery. Klaxons span their second Together party, which The Gossip had to race off the stage at their sell-out Astoria gig to hit the decks for their ‘official after party’ with us.

Each and every set was stormed through with out me (or anyone else is seemed) even knowing the time, glow sticks spinning and feet jumping I never wanted this night to end... and it didn't, with the afterparty going well into late Sunday morning, ravers finally surfaced and made their way, feet aching and glowsticks lost in the madness, home.

Slutty Fringe
Tony Poland's London-based, music blog, 'Slutty Fringe' supplies an up to date run-down of the alternative music scene.

Although his written copy can at times be difficult to follow, he makes up for this with his supply of music file links, website links and information on up-and coming releases, bands and events which to people like me, who are interested in all the contents on the blog would find incredibly useful.
The vast list of bands and artists links shows his clear interest in supporting them as well as his passion for this type of music. He also links the labels that the music is released on in order to make it easy for us to find the music.
The links to remixs and tracks as well show a clear passion for a vast range of indie-rave, electro-funk and dance music which shows he knows what he's talking about, despite his writing not being particularly fantastic.
He supplies an incredible amount of links to like-minded peoples sites, on-line radio and podcasts and links to local nightclubs worth going to.
The blog supplies any person interests in the scene in London a very good rundown of what happens, where it happens, whose happening and does it in a fashion that is easy to find out more about and enjoyable to look at. This is shown in the use of large images and links rather that hard copy.

This particular post is a favourite of mine... OUT OF TIME
I like way he will link a good remix and also list the tracklisting. This again show the dedication to his cause and a useful for people reading to find out names of certain tracks.
It then goes on to list events going on this month which link to the tracklisting.
Slutty Fringe is a useful tool for both people who may be discovering new music, as well as current music journalists with is vast amount or images, links, reviews and tracks listings that prove Tony Polands obvious passion for the scene and his ability to supply everyone with relevant information.

I am Fashion

A review of weblog... 'I am Fashion' .
This blog dedicated to all things fashion is by two women who work between the UK and the US who have decided to create a straightforward and simple way of finding out about fashion.
The name is incredibly affective as it is to the point and would grab any ones attention if you were to particularly search for fashion blogs.
It is very easy to use as the page has used simple and effective ways of navigating your way through the website. It has used wording which will not confuse people and the design and layout is very pleasing to the eye.
It acts as a site 'by normal people, for normal people'. I think this means the content would not belittle people and would mean anyone on the web could read this blog and not only identify with what its about but gain valuable information from it.
The website lists a vast number of links to other useful websites to do with fashion which would also make it a favourite with bloggers everywhere.
The layout and design isn't to intense and everything is easy to read and well written.
This website has successfully done what the two writers have set out to do and anyone looking for simple and easy fashion guidance would not need to look much further.
If your looking for a few easy fashion tips... here's the link again - I am Fashion
