Damn Queens of the Stone Age. Josh Homme and co have got fans both quivering with pant-dampening excitement over their next album and furious that the only UK festival they're playing is O2 Wireless. Come on, Wireless? If they're not supporting Dave Grohl in his various guises then it's the White Stripes. I don't want to pay to sit in Hyde Park drinking Pimms with shrieking, patterned-welly-wearing Jack White obsessives. That'd just be silly.
Still, I've been arsing around on the newly under-stated website and found a section called Ask The Band. We're all aware of what this entails so I won't explain. It reminds me of being at primary school and having an unhealthy fondness for Boyzone. One day, when my copy of the Boyzone fanclub (yes I was a member) fanzine (no I didn't write it!) came through, I discovered an Ask The Band (or in this instance, ask the grouping of pre-pubescent boys and Shane Lynch) section and decided to write to them with a bollocking good question. My first brush with journalism putting me immediately to the test!
After much deliberation, wondering whether or not Ronan would accept my proposal and if at the tenderest age of 10 I was too young, I plumped for a real Paxman-esque, universe shattering humdinger - "do you support charities?" What a humdinger it was. I bet the work placement student at the press office had to have a long hard think over a cuppa to figure out an answer to that. Moreover, who ever says "no" to that kind of question? It's like asking if someones opposed to child abuse.
Long, boring story short, 'Ronan' replied in the next issue and I was published. Something for the CV, that one.
I'm told Josh Homme is not only opposed to child abuse but even supports charities. Shocking.
